Published on 10th October 2012, Dandelions & Bad Hair Days is a collection of poetry and prose on the subject of mental health.
Based on the personal experiences of those who have had to deal with emotional ill-health, their carers or professionals in the field, it includes a selection of the pieces written for the mental health monthly guest post slot on my blog at No wriggling out of writing and additional material by other talented and creative contributors.
Although the majority of the contributors come from Britain, others are from as far afield as Australia and the United States. All have been open about their own experience and the issues raised are universal; each contributor keen to raise awareness of mental health issues and reduce the stigma and discrimination many of those affected still encounter. The stories are by turn moving, inspiring and uplifting and the writing first class.
Do explore this site using the menu above and get to know some of the wonderful people who have contributed to the book. Some have written a piece about their own experience, others about a family member. There are poets and there are the artists that have offered their work for the cover and between the pages free of charge.
Most importantly, those behind Dandelions and Bad Hair Days illustrate the ways in which mental illness can strike anyone, even those who seem least likely to be affected.
